Water System Improvements

CHALLENGE

Space-X located their major rocket engine test facility in the McGregor Industrial Park. The location is ideal for a number of reasons. One of which is that the park was formerly a Naval Weapons Plant and was later home of the Hercules Rocket. With its long history came old, dilapidated infrastructure. After several years, the water distribution system proved to be unreliable and unable to provide sufficient water fast enough to meet the rocket engine test schedule.

SOLUTION

Walker Partners identified the improvements to the distribution system needed to accommodate Space-X and anticipated future growth in the Industrial Park. We determined the capacity and final locations for a new 250,000 gallon elevated storage tank and 500,000 gallon ground storage tank. We worked closely with both the City of McGregor and Space-X to determine the routing for 25,000 linear feet of 12-inch water line.

We performed all surveying necessary for design of the project, and also prepared and obtained the easements required for all of the facilities comprising this project. We designed and prepared final plans and specifications for three separate bid packages. The plans were submitted to TCEQ for review and approval.

VALUE

Space-X and the City of McGregor will have a dependable water distribution system to meet both present and future needs in the Industrial Park at a reasonable cost on an extremely aggressive project schedule, which are the key goals for the project.

Walker Partners’ keen understanding of the local soil conditions combined with unequalled experience with water pipe materials will ensure Space-X that they are getting the right pipe for the greatest return on investment.
