Walker Partners was tasked by the Schertz Seguin Local Government Corporation to analyze, design, expand and create water systems throughout the Gonzales and Guadalupe counties.

• The Gonzales well field is an expansion from 12,500 acre-feet annually to 20,000 acre-feet annual well field production for the cities of Schertz and Seguin. The project consisted of permitting, siting, design, and construction of four Carrizo Water Wells in Gonzales County. The addition of four new wells brings the total number of wells in the SSLGC Gonzales well field to 12 wells.
• The new Guadalupe well field provides additional groundwater supplies from Guadalupe County to SSLGC. Consisting of eight five hundred gallon per minute wells, the new well collection system will be tied to a new six MGD iron and manganese removal water treatment plant. The new water treatment plant designed by Walker Partners will have three gravity filters and feature on site chlorine generation. The treatment plant will be expandable to 12 MGD to provide for potential water supplies from Wilson County.
• In addition, an 18 MGD expansion of a regional potable water Iron and Manganese removal and treatment facility serving the Cities of Schertz, Seguin, Selma, and Universal City. Due to rapid growth in the area, additional treatment and pumping capacity was needed, in short order, to meet the water demands of the service area. The project required detailed analysis for the successful blending of Carrizo water with water from both the Edwards aquifer and surface water supplies. The facility was designed, constructed, and placed on line within 12 months of execution of the engineering agreement. Equipment was preordered while final plans were being developed, allowing for fast tracking of needed water supplies.
• The project also includes the construction of a new 2.0 million gallon and a new 5.6 million gallon ground storage facility for the wholesale water supply, bringing the total storage of the wholesale system to 11.6 million gallons. The existing SSLGC wholesale water supply system can produce up to 18 million gallons per day of treated water from the Carrizo aquifer. The ground storage facilities are needed to allow SSLGC to meet the peak demands of the cities of Schertz and Seguin. After an economic analysis performed, pre-stressed concrete tanks were selected as the best option for this application due to the low long termed maintenance as compared to welded steel tanks. All components of these tanks are constructed of concrete, aluminum, and stainless steel, depending upon the application, to ensure a long life. The tanks also incorporate sloped floors to allow for ease of draining and cleaning of the interiors of the storage facilities.
